When I Ungroup the Effect Disappears?

This is by design and simply a consequence of how the Effects work in the Software.

Some programs will only apply an effect to a single object, but Future Corporation Software allows you to share an effect over multiple objects. It does this by placing them into an effects group. Consequently when the objects are ungrouped, the effects group no longer exists.

If you wish to isolate an Effect or split it from the design (isolate it) so it remains fixed, simply convert the Effect to Curves.
